New tool: Check your zip code for community radio frequencies
Is there room for community radio in your zip code? Find out with our shiny new zip code check tool.
Thanks to technology provided by REC Networks, Prometheus now offers a simple way to check for open frequencies that could be used by new Low Power FM (LPFM) radio stations. The tool indicates the number of possible channels under current FCC rules, as well as channels that could be available under new rules being decided now.
The FCC is asking for public comment on proposed new rules for LPFM stations, and comments are due by May 7. If your area would benefit from more flexible FCC rules, the zip code check will also help you send a customized comment to the FCC!
One tip: If you don't find available channels, try another nearby zip code. You can also share your email address so that we can email you if your results change.
Does your neighborhood need a local voice on the airwaves? See if there's room at the zip code channel check, also at the top righthand corner of every page on our site.
